The assignment I enjoyed working on the most was the color wheel and the black and white value chart. This is because we got to use paint and it was my best artworks.
2. Which assignment did you ENJOY working on the least? Why?
The assignment I enjoyed working on the least was the last assignment which was the self-portrait. This is because I can not really draw.

I like using blackboard because it is a very organized website. It is easy to manage and it lets you know your grades.
4. What is your opinion of the Discussion Groups in this course?
The discussion groups were kind of hard to keep up with because I would constantly look to see if there was one due for that particular week.
5. Did you participate in any of the extra credit projects in previous modules? If so, what was your opinion of them? (mandala, Elgin marbles, culture, art critics)
I participated in one. I thought they were very helpful to boost your grade a little.
6. If you had the opportunity to change this course:
What would you keep?
I would keep just about everything.
What would you remove?

Reflection of AED 200

1. What were your expectations for this course and were they met?
My expectations for this course were to learn how to properly use the blog website. It was also to learn how to analyze artwork properly and learned what influenced the artist to make this type of art. My expectations were met.
2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your initial posting?
Art is a way of expressing yourself, your emotions, or whatever is going on in the world. Art is apart of life. People can create art every day and not realize it. Before, I defined it as something you can create that has value.
3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
My favorite artist back when starting the course was Picasso. However, my favorite artist now is Rashid Johnson. This is not only because he is a new artist, but for the simple fact that I can understand his artwork more than I can understand others.
4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
I still feel the same way I did about taking an online course. I feel the same because I took a few online courses before I took this one. It is different because there was a lot more work for this course than the other courses I took.

Art Project #4- Reflection Journal

I thought this project was going to be easy to complete but there were many steps that I had to take into completing this project. I enjoyed doing this project because I learned a lot about the different artworks and about the artist that created them. The steps that were taking to complete this project were, develop a theme of what I wanted my exhibit to be about. The next step was to find art that reflected this theme. Then, I had to dissect and analyze the artwork. Lastly, I had to put the powerpoint together and figure out what colors would attract attention to my exhibit.

Module 13 & 14: Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
For the first video, The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art, I learned that the term lowbrow was used for mostly paintings or images that had naked women in them. I also learned that people understand this form of art more than the other forms of art because there is nothing to explain. I also learned that after the second world war that New York got coronet art from France and Europe. In the second video, BBC Culture show: Tate Modern is 10! (Part 5), I learned that Monet paints in a way that you see one thing but you can also see another picture within the painting. In the last video, An Acquiring Mind: Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, I learned that knowledge is important in curation.
2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
Yes, the videos related to the creation of the art project. This is because it gives you an idea of how to interpret a piece in different ways.
3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to the understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?
I feel like the films were very informative. I learned a lot from these films. It helped me understand curation.

Module 12: Video Review

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
The two videos I chose were  Isamu Noguchi: The Sculpture of Spaces and Andy Warhol: Images of an Image. I chose these two videos because the titles grabbed my attention. I wanted to know what the videos were about
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
From the video Isamu Noguchi: The Sculpture of Spaces, I learned I learned that Noguchi built three hills in the sculpture garden. I also learned that Noguchi was never satisfied with what he created. He also turned to create something new. From the second video Andy Warhol: Images of an Image, I learned Andy Warhol did not want to be an artist. I also learned that Warhol became famous off of his different paintings of Marilyn Monroe. I also learned that in his 40s he became a society painter that was highly rated.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos related to the reading because it gives more information about what these artists created compared to in the reading. It basically expanded on what was said in the reading. Also, gave information on how their artwork impacted the world.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to the understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I learned a lot from the film. The videos explained things that were not in the book. It also gave more examples of artworks by these two artists. Other than that, the videos were kind of long. However, I thought it was very informative.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the first video, The Mystical North: Spanish Art from the 19th Century to the Present, I learned that Goya's paintings were seen as horrid. I also learned that after Goya's death, painters after him started painting things that showed happiness, such as celebrations and dancing. In the second video, The Impact of Cubism, it was about Picasso actually inspired Gris. I also learned cubism is one big painting that uses a lot of geometric shapes to make one image.

Patrick Foran
Resist-Face, 2019
Charcoal on Paper

In this artwork, it shows a portrait of a male or female with a hoodie on, hidden behind the mask. The only thing you can see from the face is part of the person's eyes. The elements that were used were lines, shapes, forms, space, colors, value, and texture. Lines and shapes were used to create the whole image. Colors are used by the different blacks and whites used. Forms were used to create this 3D image. The value was used to create a contrast between light and dark. The texture is portrayed in this artwork is smooth. The principles used were movement, contrast, and balance. Movement is used by the viewer's eyes traveling around the artwork. Proportion is used by all the elements in the artwork working together. Balance is used by all the colors, shapes and textures working as one. I think the artist was trying to show a way that people use masks.
Julia Bottoms
Dolly, 2019
Oil on panel
In this artwork, it shows a portrait of a little girl making some type of movement with her hands. The elements used were colors, lines, shapes, and forms. Colors were used by a mixture of light and dark colors. Shapes, forms, and lines were used to create the actual body of this little girl. The principles used were balance, movement, and contrast. Balance is used by all the colors, shapes and forms working as one. Movement is used by the viewer's eyes moving around the painting. Contrast is used by the painting holding the viewer's eyes. I think the artist tried to say that since we were young we have blended in with the background as though we were not there. So, now its time for our true colors to show.
Tricia Butski
Figment, 2019
Charcoal on Paper

In this portrait, it shows a picture of a girl looking up with a dark shadow covering her mouth. The girl looks as though she is worried and scared. The artwork has the elements of color, shapes, lines, forms, and value. Colors are used by the different blacks and whites used. Forms were used to create this 3D image. The value was used to create a contrast between light and dark. Lines and shapes were used to form this image. The principles that were used were balance, contrast, movement, emphasis, and proportion. Emphasis was used to hold the viewer's eyes on the part of the image where something is covering her mouth and the worriedness within her eyes. Balance is used by all the colors, shapes and forms working as one. Movement is used by the viewer's eyes moving around the painting. Contrast is used by the painting holding the viewer's eyes. I think the artist was trying to show that evilness would hold you back and can eat you alive.

What did you think of visiting the Gallery and purposefully looking at the exhibition from a different perspective - the physical space, the architecture, theme, etc.?
Visiting the Burchfield Penny museum was interesting. Looking at the exhibition from a different perspective was good. It allowed me to compare and contrast the different artworks.

Mask Making

1. Upload the three (3) inspiration images to your Blog (or link to your Photobucket account). Explain why you selected the inspiration pieces.
Crooked Beak of Heaven Mask,19th century
Wood, plant fiber, cord, pigment
18 x 40in
I chose this specific masks as an inspiration because I love the detailing it has. The colors work very well together.

Image result for african masks
Mbangu Mask, early 20th century
Wood, Pigment, Fiber
13 x 9in
I chose this mask because I love how it displays two different feelings on the opposite side of the mask. I also like how it has two different colors.

Peking Opera Mask,  19th century
Ceramic

I chose this mask as another inspiration because I love the colors it uses. I also like the meaning behind the colors. For example, red is positive.
2. Upload images of your sketches and finished piece.

3. Explain how you used the Elements and Principles in your finished mask.
I used the elements of color, shapes, value, form, and space. The colors I used were both light and dark colors. The shapes I used were circles from the cheek, ovals for the eyes, and other shapes. Value is used with the light and dark colors in the mask. I used form for the long teardrop. The principles I used were balance and movement. Balance was used by the colors and shapes working together to make this mask. Lastly, movement was used because the mask allows the viewer's eyes to move through it.
4. Share your opinion of your finished mask and what you thought about creating the mask.
I thought that creating the mask was fun but I also had a few difficulties. The difficulties I faced was figuring out what I want the meaning of my mask to be. I also am not a very good artist. The last difficulty I faced was trying to make the mask 3D. Other than those difficulties, I enjoyed it.

Module 10: Video Review

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
The first video I chose was African Art. I chose this because I want to know more about their type of artwork and how its made. The second video I chose was African Art: Legacy of Oppression. I chose this video because the title stood out to me.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the video African Art, I learned that they make their masks that they use for ceremonies, from wood and straws. I also learned that some of the masks can easily be deteriorated quickly so they have to be kept in a certain climate. The masks that are usually found in museums are either less than 200 years old. I also learned that their artwork is not supposed to be of a living person or animal but a spirit. In the second video, I learned that most of the masks were created to scare people. I also learned that this one specific mask was used to scare off their enemy which was the Europeans. However, it didn't work.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The Videos are related to the readings because they gave information about the artwork in Africa. However, the book explained more about how it was connected to Islamic art. Both the reading and the videos talked about the mask meanings and what it signified.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to the understanding of the readings and art concepts?
The videos were very informative. They allowed me to learn more about African artwork and what it signifies. Also, it gave me information on what influences African culture to create these different forms of artwork. The films added more information on what the reading did not touch on.

Module 9- Dominant vs. Non-Dominant

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
Using my hand as a subject matter was like being a kid all over again. However, it was a more advanced step. Because I had to make sure I add the small details that my hands have on them. It was also stressful because the number of details I had on my hand was not able to come out like how it was on my hand.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
I used a pencil because charcoal is kind of messy. I also used a pencil because charcoal sticks cause a lot of smudging. A pencil is also the easiest media to use.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
It was difficult because it is not my dominant hand. It takes a lot of effort to hold the pencil properly. Also, it is a lot harder to do certain movements with a pencil, such as drawing a straight line.

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
I feel that one is more successful than the other. I feel as though my dominant hand had more of a success because its the hand that I have the most control over. On the other hand, I have less control over my non-dominant hand. However, my non-dominant hand drawing was not as bad as I thought it will be.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?
No, I would not use my non-dominant hand to create artwork because I do not feel like it would be as neat as I want it to be.

I also learned that Michelangelo had made many drawings of the nude male because he wanted to perfect and master structure of the body. In the second video Albrecht Dürer: Image of a Master, I learned that a painter examines there artwork and then transfers it. I also learned that Dürer later changes his style to copper engraving.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the reading because the text spoke about the works of Michaelangelo. The text also gave information about Albrecht Dürer. It is also related to the text because the text talks about the renaissance which some of these artists had created artwork during this time. The text also spoke about the different centuries that were shown through their artwork.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to the understanding of the readings and art concepts?

Module 8: Video Review

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose the video, The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and The Human Figure. I chose this video because I wanted to learn more about this topic. I also chose this video because the title seemed interesting.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the first video, How Art Made The World 1- More Human Than Human, I learned that the statue of Venus is made out of limestone and it is worth $60 million. I also learned that the styles of the Egyptians do not change. All the different pieces of artwork had led up to human artwork with the motion to it. In the second video, The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and The Human Figure, I learned that Greek art during this time was mostly the body of women. I also learned that the scratched on the belly of the artwork represented the women having stretch marks after birth.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the text because it gave some information that the videos did not give. It also spoke about the artwork that was in the book as well. However, the text had more information about artwork in different parts of the world and how it related to religion.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to the understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I thought the films were very informational. They add depth to understanding the reading because it explains somethings that the text did not touch on.

Module 7: Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the video Architecture: The Science of Design, I learned that in order to build a building you must make sure it can handle wind. If not the building to can be damaged and it will cause elevators to stop. Also, I learn that there is a lot of elements that go into making concrete. In the second video, Frank Lloyd Wright and the Prairie School, I learned that this lady named Dana had asked Oak Park to design her a house. I also learned the Wright made Prairie Houses that all were different from each other but had some minor similarities.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The videos are related to the text because it gives information on how to start making these large pieces of art. It also goes into depth on the different types of architecture. Blog Reviews

1. Hyperlink the Blogs you reviewed into your Blog
https://princehallsquare1.blogspot.com/2019/03/art-gallery.html#comments

2. When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?
I did agree with the elements and principles the artist had put into their slideshow. I actually did see some images that can also be another element or principle. For example, there was an image of an leaf and grass. This picture of the leaf could've gone with the element of lines.
3. When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Were the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?
There was only one image in the blog posting that was the same as mine. The image was one of Zanele Muholi artworks. The image was the same because we both felt a connection to it. The rest of the images were different either because we did not find interest in the same pieces of artwork, or we went to a different museum.
4. Were there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?
Yes, one of the images was the Circus Pole, 2005-2008 by Southtown WoodCarvers. This grasped my attention because of the colors and the way that it is structured. I would want to know what influenced them to create this. The next artwork was Bleeding Hearts, 1929 by Charles E. Burchfield. This painting allowed you to have some type of emotion to it. I would like to know did he create this painting from a personal heartbreak.
5. What do you think about the process of reading your peer's reflection? Do you find this to be a value in your learning?
The process was simple. However, it was sort of difficult because there was not enough of the blog posting to actually comment on. I did find this to valuable to my learning because I get to know how others feel about the artwork that they posted.
6. Check your Blog and read comments posted by your Peers. Do you find their comments helpful?
The comments under my blog postings were comments on how they felt about my postings. There were no comments on what I should do differently or how to improve for the next time. Overall, I enjoyed and appreciated reading comments about my blog postings.

Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the first video, Through the Eyes of the Sculptor, I learned that every stone has a different smell. I also learned that in order to sculpt you must use all your feelings in it. You would know whether a stone is good to use if you can hear the sound travel through it. Also, you would know if you hit it with a hammer and it does not have a crack in it. The last thing I learned is that they leave the stone in between each gap so it can be transported.

From the second video, Glass and Ceramics, I learned that glass is made by silica sand, heat and another substance. One of those other substances can either be oyster shells, soda, or limestone.  These substances make sure the glass does not form into liquid. I also learned that stained glass windows are made from lead. Ceramic goes through a process called glazing which gives it a shine.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings in the text because they both give information on how sculptures are made and how the sculptor goes about creating it. It shares information about casting, carving, and assembling it. It also talks about using time and place wisely. The reading also talks about how ceramic and glass is made. It also gives a background on where ceramics and glass were used as a form of art.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to the understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?
I thought the films were very informative. They gave a lot of information on different types of sculptures, and the different types of information on how to keep it from breaking. The other video gave a lot of information on the different types of glass and how they are made. Both videos showed how they were made step by step.

Designing My Logo

1. Discuss what you thought about creating your logo.
I thought to design a logo, in general, was going to be hard since I can not draw. But as I got into the zone of doing it, I felt I did a very great job for someone who is not that great at drawing.
2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation.
The first thing I thought about is what should I use to inspire me to design the logo. To design my logo I decided to do a logo for my blog. Since my blog name is The Journey into an Artistic Heart, I decided to use a heart with a paint brush to fit my blog name.
3. What was the most important discovery you made in the creation of your logo?
The most import discovery was if you have your mind set on a specific thing you want to do, you should do it.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos, powerpoint, and reading material for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
The most important thing I learned was that you should get others opinion and use that to help make the product or logo better. I found the videos helpful. It gave information on how to go about designing something and figure out how to make it better.

Art Gallery Visit 1

Rashid Johnson
Falling Man, 2015
Mirrored tile, white ceramic tile, spray enamel, vinyl, black soap, and wax
Serge Alain Nitegeka
BLACK SUBJECTS: Still II, 2014
Triptych: paint and charcoal on wood

The two pieces of artworks that left an impression on me were the Falling Man and BLACK SUBJECTS: Still II. Falling Man left an impression on me because it has a really deep meaning. It signifies what is happening in the African American community. This is basically showing how violence is used to solve problems. It also had an impact on me because I lost my cousin to gun violence. The second piece of artwork BLACK SUBJECTS: Still II, left an impression because just by looking at it, it gives the impression of imprisonment. The lines give the feel of being behind bars. My eyes were attracted to this specific artwork because of the different elements that are used throughout it.

Zanelle Muholi
Zonk'ziwe, Green Market Square, Cape Town from the series  "Somnyama Ngonyama (Hail the Dark Lioness)" 2016

Agus Suwage
Tembok Toleransi #2 (Tolerance Wall #2), 2013
Screen Print and paint on recycled cans, car audio system, and sound

The two artworks that I had a connection to were Zonk'ziwe, Green Market Square, Cape Town and Tembok Toleransi #2 (Tolerance Wall #2). I have a connection with Zonk'ziwe, Green Market Square, Cape Town because the facial expressions on the women's face draw my attention to the piece. It also allows me to feel the emotion of the women in the pictures. The description of the pieces said, "Just like our ancestors, we live 365 days a year, and we should speak without fear." I also feel a connection with the artwork because I can feel what the artist is going through just by looking at the picture. I also understand what it is like to be a black female. The second artwork Tembok Toleransi #2 (Tolerance Wall #2), I connect to this piece because on the wall there are a few recordings that relate to the different religions he went through. One of the recordings from his past religions were Christianity. This connects to me because I am a Christian.

Philip Guston
Multiplied, 1972
Oil on Canvas

George Segal
Cinema, 1963
Plaster, illuminated Plexiglas, and metal

I would like to know more about these two pieces of artwork. I want to know why the artist used the color red to signify the is an act of violence and racism throughout his painting Multiplied. I would also like to know why he chose to use abstract expressionism. In the second artwork Cinema, I would like to know why he decided to create this piece. I also would like to know what this piece signified through his perspective.
